Garry’s Grill in Severna Park is a Good Dinner Bet

May 16th, 2009

I swung by Garry’s tonight for an early dinner with my fiancee and parents. My parents were already big fans of the grill, located in downtown Severna Park, but I had not been overly impressed with their mid-day offerings the few times I’d been by.

Tonight’s dinner really changed my opinion for the better.

Garry’s Grill is a simple, casual, local ma and pop style restaurant with a diner feel. The decor is nothing to write home about, but I enjoyed being able to watch my food as it was being cooked in the open kitchen.

My fiancee had a delicious chicken marsala which she enjoyed for its fresh spinach and sweet-sour wine sauce.

I went with their Chicken Caesar Fajita dinner salad which offers a southwestern kick on what is usually a run-of-the-mill staple. The salad tasted extremely fresh, and it was not swimming in so much sour cream and caesar dressing that the zest of the veggies was drowned. The chicken, onions, and peppers were nicely grilled, but not charred.

Garry’s Grill really stood out for me on this dinner run, and I guarantee I will be back to try more of their dinner entrees.

Don’t Shop at The Men’s Wearhouse at The Festival at Riva

May 16th, 2009

My fiancee and I swung by the Annapolis Festival at Riva location today with the intent of finding the perfect Grooms’ tuxedo for our wedding. We Planned to order 8 tuxedos, but the service was so horrendous that the location has lost our wedding business–and any business they would have had from us in the future.

We walked in, and it was about five minutes before we were greeted or approached by a salesperson. Meanwhile, employees chatted idly behind the counter.

When an employee finally approached us, he acted like he did not care, and waved us towards a book of options while he left. Minutes later, a saleswoman snapped in our general direction (where a few other customers were standing), “Who’s ready to be measured!”

After looking at the style book for about 15 minutes, without any employees coming over to assist us further, we left.

There are plenty of other men’s dressware retailers in the Annapolis area, many with much better service. Avoid The Men’s Wearhouse location at The Festival at Riva.

…aaaaand we’re back! - BGE Executives to Recieve Millions in Bonuses

March 19th, 2009

I’ve decided to restart my Arundel Living project. There is just too much that needs to be said about living in Anne Arundel County.

I don’t have time for a terrific post right now, and I don’t know enough about the issue, but bobbing in the wake of the AIG Executive Bonuses scandal, it looks like Maryland’s most hated entity, BGE, is following the AIG lead.

Check out the full story at The Baltimore Sun:

Under the purchase agreement between Constellation and EDF, the French utility has agreed to pay up to $19 million in performance awards covering 2007-2009 and up to $13 million for 2008-2010.

The 120 senior managers would be eligible for $7.8 million and $5.7 million for those respective periods, Gould said. None of the employees in the commodities-trading unit are included; that division was the source of the company’s cash problems.

Actual payouts, however, would not be paid until next February and February 2011 and would be based on performance, Gould said.
